Day 5

 Today was the first day of the second week of the sfx makeup j-term. This morning we created our very own fantasy makeup looks. The fantasy makeup consisted of making an imaginary character or creating fantasy features. After lunch, Ms. Vasquez came in to teach us about different art movements throughout history. Some of these art movements consist of Rococo, Post-Impressionism, Dada, Surrealism, Pop Art, and Minimalism. For the rest of the day after Ms. Vasquez left, we spend our time brainstorming a new look based off of the art forms. Tomorrow we will make sure all of our designs are approved then we will start to bring the ideas to life.

 Content warning: fake gore  Today was the last day of the first week of the SFX makeup term! In the morning, we started by building on and creating more advanced looks from the skills that the amazing Sophia O’Heron taught us yesterday afternoon. Each person created their own unique gore makeup design with an intention and a story behind their look. We used tools such as scar wax, liquid latex, and more to execute our makeup .  In the afternoon, we moved from gore-based looks to fantasy-based makeup. We had interesting looks such as a porcelain doll, zombie, ghost, Frankenstein's monster, fairy, vampire, celestial being, video game character and cheetah.        While doing our makeup, we enjoyed watching episodes of Star Trek to pass the time. We had a lot of fun this day and make sure to tune in again to our blog next week!

Day 3: Content Warning for Fake Blood and Gore

See blog with photos here !  Explanation for bruise/scars:   For the bruises, we started by choosing how old the bruise was and how it occurred. The ones that are newer look brighter and redder whereas the ones that are older look greener or yellow. We dampened the sponge and started mixing colors like dark red, red, purple, yellow, blue and green, these are colors that we have on our bruise wheel and other palettes given to us. For the scars, we used liquid latex with cotton and spirit gum with wax. Photos for character makeup: ’ Explanation for character makeup: Our assignment was to pick a character to recreate. Some of us applied our newly learned skill of blocking eyebrows for looks such as,”a bad case of stripes” and pennywise. Four individuals painted themselves blue.

  Character Effects on Jan 7- Eli Lasics For a better formatted version of this post, click here Age Makeup, Part Two: Electric Boogaloo  In the morning we were challenged to create a look based on a celebrity or fictional character. We each selected a reference photo and began working to replicate their aging and appearance. This was a continuation of our work on tuesday, and allowed for refinement of foundational skills   Charecter Makeup: Eyebrow Blocking and Shenanigans   In the afternoon, we learn to block our eyebrows. This is an important skill for many types of character makeup.
